Data Management

Key data sources available for energy sector in BIMSTEC

The following table lists some of the prominent data sources for energy sector, available in BIMSTEC Member States. While preference is given for online dashboards which allow selection of time period, in the absence of the same, links for reports are provided. Further, as report links change every year, link is provided to the overall report/publication page, instead of a specific yearly report.

Key initiatives and study reports in BIMSTEC towards energy data management

India

A committee on energy data management was formed by NITI Aayog on 30th July 2021 under the Sustainable Growth Pillar established under the India-US Strategic Partnership. During the meeting of joint working group held on 23rd August, a sub-group was formed on Energy Data Management to identify the parameters which need to be standardized across various energy statistics products in India.

The report prepared by the committee has examined key issues with respect to energy data in India such as definitions and concepts, calorific values, economic/statistical units, data collection, and commodity balances. The report has recommendations with respect to data definitions, standardization, methodologies, calorific values, energy/commodity balances etc. which can go a long way in strengthening the energy balances being reported in India.
